The trim scene: Please Be Careful

4/4/2017

A lot of folks come here. Hoping to be hired to go work on a "farm" and make money.
The truth is most growers hire only people they know, and many folks come back year after year to the same scene.
If you don't anyone, you may not be hired.
If Someone does ask you to come work, please be safe and think about a few things.
How well do you know this person? Ask him/her for some references-is there anyone that has worked for them willing to talk with you about what happened?
Find out what the pay deal is  DON'T fall for the "I'll pay you at the end of the season."

We have seen many people work hard for a season and end up with nothing or with much less than they promised. You want to be paid on a regular basis. Note that provision of a place to stay doesn't constitute pay for work, don't fall for this on.
Volunteer work is unpaid labor.
Find out where you will live. At the scene? How will you leave if you must? Think about it.
What about food? Is it part of the deal or must you provide your own? And how will you do that?
Exchange information with other travelers and with supportive locals.

If any time you feel unsafe, leave. It isn't worth it. Young travelers have died on the out-skirts of Garberville and Redway  recently. Please don't end up as a body or a statistic.
Always make certain someone knows where you are. Keep contact with family, friends and have some local contact too. Check in often.
If you have no one else, please at least keep in touch with CHILL activist.
